For our Halloween this year, I wanted to make a couple things to snack on, because I knew we weren't going to be having a full dinner before we started our trick-or-treating with Elayne. So one of the things I made was this cheese ball in the shape of a spider. I loved how it turned out! It was so festive and, (unlike every other spider), kinda cute!

When I was growing up, my mom used to make a pepper cheese ball for a lot of parties or appetizer nights. I used the same recipe for the cheese ball, and then made it look like the spider.

Start by mixing together the softened cream cheese and Ranch mix until they are well-combined.
Lay out a piece of wax paper. Pour some ground black pepper on the wax paper.
Form all but ¼ cup of the cream cheese mixture into a ball. Roll this in the pepper until it’s fully coated.

Use the pretzel sticks to make the spider's 8 legs. Use 2 pretzel sticks per leg. The remaining cream cheese mixture should be used to connect the pretzels together. Take a small ball of cream cheese mixture and roll it in pepper before connecting the pretzels. Finally, press the two almonds into the cheese ball to be the eyes. If you don't have or don't want to use almonds, many other things will work. Some ideas include chocolate covered raisins, peanuts, espresso beans, olives, etc.

Spider Cheese Ball

Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 packet Ranch mix
  • ground black pepper, for rolling
  • 16 pretzel sticks
  • 2 almonds

Directions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese & Ranch til combined & smooth.
  2. Pour some black pepper on a sheet of wax paper; gather all but about ¼ cup of the cream cheese mixture into a ball. Roll cream cheese mixture in the pepper til fully covered.
  3. Use 2 pretzel sticks to create each spider leg. To connect the two pretzels, take a small ball of the reserved cream cheese mixture & roll in pepper.
  4. Press the 2 almonds into the cream cheese ball to serve as the eyes.
  5. Chill in the fridge til ready to serve.

Notes

  1. Instead of almonds, you can use something else for the eyes. Peanuts, chocolate covered raisins, espresso beans, etc.
